MMAG ventures into Cambodia to expand regional cargo operations
MMAG Group is expanding into Cambodia with the establishment of XCT (Cambodia) Co Ltd (XCT Cambodia), aiming to replicate its advanced KLIA cargo processing system to bolster regional operations and global market connectivity.
MMAG Aviation Consortium Sdn Bhd (MAC), the aviation arm of MMAG, announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, XCT Aviation Sdn Bhd (XCT), has applied for the incorporation of XCT Cambodia with Cambodian authorities.
“This strategic move underscores Cambodia’s potential due to its prime geographical location near key markets in Indochina and India, supportive government policies, and a growing economic landscape,” MMAG stated in a press release.
XCT Cambodia will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of XCT with an authorised share capital of US$5,000 comprising 5,000 ordinary shares of which US$1,000 comprising 1,000 ordinary shares will be issued as paid-up capital.
XCT Cambodia has been established to offer ground handling services for airlines and related businesses, signifying MMAG Group’s strategic entry into Cambodia.
Leveraging advanced cargo handling capabilities and operational expertise, the group plans to extend its network to major airports in Cambodia, including the upcoming airport in Siem Reap.
“The establishment of XCT Cambodia marks a pivotal step in our strategic expansion into Southeast Asia,” said MAC Chairman Woo Kam Weng.
“By leveraging our established systems and substantial investments at KLIA, we are poised to enhance Cambodia’s cargo industry efficiency and global connectivity, setting new industry benchmarks.”
The new facility in Cambodia is designed to handle cargo from up to 72 narrow-body passenger aircraft simultaneously, showcasing advanced technological capabilities and operational efficiencies.
Additionally, XCT’s facilities feature stringent security measures such as continuous surveillance and specialized handling for sensitive and high-value cargo, ensuring adherence to international safety standards.
“With our expansion into Cambodia, XCT aims to establish new standards in regional cargo operations, meeting the rising demands of e-commerce and bolstering the logistics network for efficient cargo transshipment to major markets in Europe and the USA,” Woo added.
“Upon successful incorporation, we will collaborate closely with Cambodian authorities to secure the necessary certifications and licenses for cargo terminal operations,” Woo continued.
The incorporation of XCT Cambodia hinges on Cambodian authority approval and aligns with MMAG Group’s vision to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia, positioning Cambodia as a crucial hub in global logistics networks.
