Message from Secretary - General

Thank you for visiting the website of the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC).

Natural rubber (NR) is a critical raw material of great strategic importance in sectors as diverse as healthcare, defense, space, buildings and construction, transportation and vehicle tyres, the latter of which consumes between 60 and 70 percent of global production.

While the post-2023 global economic outlook is expected to be sluggish due to factors including global conflict and rising inflation, the Electric Vehicle (EV) sector continues to trend more positively. As but one indicator of this, the November 2022 COP27 saw a highly significant (61.5%) increase in the number of signatories committed to Zero Emission Vehicles, including national and sub-national governments, manufacturers, businesses and fleet owners. Importantly, these commitments included increases in EV tax and financial incentives benefiting buyers and producers alike. Beyond Market Insights estimates a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of roughly 22.5 percent for the global EV sector between 2022 and 2030.

Sectors related to healthcare, building, and construction are also expected to achieve steady growth in the coming decade, driven by the shifting needs of aging populations and demand for smart manufacturing, renewable energy, smart cities, and green buildings. We are hopeful that, coupled with the full recovery of post-pandemic travel, trends in these sectors will continue to drive demand for natural rubber in the years to come.

In view of the above coupled with the pressing issue of climate change, there has been an increasing call for manufacturers to produce socially as well as financially in the form of Environment, Society, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. More and more, rubber-based product manufacturers are continuing to seek their raw materials from sustainable sources. As a core theme of my 2023-2026 tenure as ANRPC Secretary General, I plan to work closely with stakeholders in order to promote the adoption of sustainable practices amongst NR producers. Working together, I am confident we will be able to make significant advances in this regard.

Given that our thirteen member countries account for approximately 85 percent of the global production of natural rubber (an integral part of the value chain) we are well-placed to support any party wishing to help improve the welfare of rubber farmers and assist in driving the rubber industry forward. We welcome any proposals you may have.

I look very much forward to positive and productive dialogues in future and will always seek to support our stakeholders and enable collaboration in any way that I can.

I sincerely thank you for your interest in ANRPC and in the limitless applications of natural rubber. I look forward to working together.

With warmest best wishes,
H.G. Toh
Secretary-General, ANRPC

1.    ANRPC’s services include the gathering of detailed data from Member Governments, the results of which are generally made available in the form of regular reports on a subscription basis. We are, however, pleased to offer selected 2007-2011 reports for free via the Publication Library found on our Website.

2.    We also offer access to a physical library including important reference materials and rubber industry reports dating from the Association’s 1970 inception to today. We are proud to offer access to this library (situated in our Kuala Lumpur office) to researchers and academics upon written request with approval by the Secretary General.
